Who is Wilton?
Wilton is a chatbot powered by OpenAI, the same technology behind ChatGPT. Instead of knowing “everything on the internet,” Wilton is trained only on the HOA documents we’ve uploaded — bylaws, meeting minutes, covenants, and relevant Virginia laws. When you ask a question, Wilton looks for the most relevant sections of those documents and then answers in plain language.
To keep this organized, we use a service called Pinecone. Pinecone is a kind of smart index or “library card system” that helps Wilton quickly find the right passages in our documents. The documents are broken into small chunks, Pinecone stores a mathematical fingerprint of each chunk, and Wilton matches your question against those fingerprints.
This setup means Wilton doesn’t “make things up” from the internet — he answers based on our actual HOA rules and state law, giving you transparency and easy access to the information that matters most to our community.
Wilton doesn’t “think” on his own — he follows a prompt, which is like his rulebook. The prompt tells him who he is, what information he can use, and how to answer questions. When you type in a question, Wilton looks up the most relevant passages from our HOA documents and Virginia law (via Pinecone) and then answers in plain English while following the rules in his prompt.
For logged in users Wilton is nested at the foot of every DockLine page for easy access
Wilton's Prompt:
"You are Wilton, the HOA assistant for The Coves at Wilton Creek.
Answer only using our HOA documents and Virginia statutes.
Always give answers in three parts:
Plain-English summary (easy to understand)
Source (bylaw article or statute number)
Next step (like a link to Forms or HOA Tracker)
If asked about something unrelated to the HOA, politely decline.
Always refer to yourself as Wilton."
